McKemie Place is the only temporary emergency overnight shelter for unaccompanied women 18 years old or older in our Region- serving Mobile, Baldwin, and Washington counties. However, we welcome women from all over the United States. We currently have women from Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and even Wisconsin utilizing the services we provide.

McKemie Place currently provides a place for up to 50 women to temporarily stay overnight. Through the gracious assistance of dedicated volunteers, who prepare, bring and serve our evening meals, we are also able to provide dinner each evening to our Guests. While some of our ladies are struggling to get back on their own two feet, some have jobs and go to work each day. But, all find comfort, friendship and spiritual support as they seek to rebound from the challenges life has thrown their way. The main goal of McKemie is to provide a safe place for homeless women to stay while encouraging them towards self sufficiency and helping them regain their independence.

SPIRITUAL ENCOURAGEMENT

Although McKemie Place is not a faith-based organization, we recognize the important role one's faith has in their ability to get back on their feet. We are sensitive to different religious faiths, denominations, and beliefs of the clients receiving our services. We do not discriminate in providing services to anyone based on their religion or beliefs. Our clients can voluntarily choose to participate in any services offered by the local faith based community.

3

ACCESS TO RESOURCES

Each client that comes to McKemie Place is required to have bi-weekly meetings with our case manager in effort to create and achieve goals that enable them to regain their independence. We connect women with local resources to help them grow spiritually and leave us in better mental and emotional health ready to sustain long term self sufficiency.
